A Week Feels Long Until a Year Disappears

Boring Issues is one day late. 0.003% of life

Boring Studios started 2 years, seven months. 2.9% of life

Have you ever felt like time was passing you by?

This might help.

When you’re sitting with the flu for a week (a terrible one I may add), your high fever may make you spiral and have an existential crisis.

No? Just me then?

So I was on day 4 of my fever and I couldn’t think straighter than bingeing The Summer I Turned Pretty.

I was so upset that I had been sick for 4 days, wasting time, doing nothing.

I stared at the ceiling and began to wonder about the perception of time.

  • Will I remember these four days at all in a year?
  • Where will I be this time next year?
  • Is time slower when you’re doing nothing, or when you’re doing everything?

And then I remembered I had to cancel my orthodontics appointment...

So I’ve been thinking about getting braces (again) - like old school metal grills baby.

I did have them when I was 13 but alas, we do forget things like wearing our retainer at such a young age.

And now my teeth are causing me physical grief while they make their way back to their original home.

The orthodontist told me I would wear braces for approx one year.

At first, I was like omg a whole year with metal braces - that’s crazy.

And then I thought one year is nothing in the scheme of my life.
It’s like 1%.

Now if you start thinking like that, you may be like “I’ve got time to waste” and yes my friend, you absolutely do have time to waste, enjoy and do nothing.

A “wasted” week? Barely 0.02% of your entire life.
A “wasted” year? 1% ish of your entire life.

But if you waste all of these weeks, years, months - they add up eventually.

So if you flip it and think “what’s one year to focus on myself, start a business and get on track?”

It’s 1%.

That’s it.

If you have a list of things you want to get done in this life, most of them will take 1-2% of your life.

Isn’t’ that crazy to think?

One year can be everything or it can be nothing.

1% can change your entire life - but the choice is entirely yours.

Life is so long.
Life is so short.
And it really depends how you look at it.

But also what you fill it with.

So a week on the couch being sick, I’m not going to cry over.

A year with braces? I won’t cry either because it’s 1% of my life that will help me for the rest of it.

But if I add up 1% for 90 years and I’ve done nothing? I’ll cry.

Put life into perspective, because time will pass anyway.

  • The year will pass whether I have braces or not.
  • The year will pass whether you go to the gym or keep saying you will.
  • The year will pass whether you start a business or not.
  • The year will pass whether you move cities or not.

The year will pass regardless of your choices.

So you might as well be filling it with your dreams and goals.

There’s 2 months until the end of 2025.

Do you want to be in the same position next year, that you are in now?

I already know the answer...

With love xx
