creativity can be a career.

You just need the skills to understand business.

Creativity doesn't equal business skills and most creatives don't understand how to successfully turn their talent into a career. But just like any other skill, you can learn entrepreneurship and business with the right tools. After 10+ years of freelancing, running a studio and learning from other founders, Boring Studios crafted the modern playbook for creatives to monetise their talent.

Two ex-agency creatives with one goal.

Frustrated with how creatives were treated, Boring Studios was inspired by putting the Creative at the forefront.

After freelancing, working in agencies and for founders, Eden and Penelope grew their business and creativity knowledge over 10+ years to create their one-of-a-kind business Boring Studios; a creative studio turned ecommerce store.

  • Penelope

    Co-Founder & Writer.

After graduating from university in Melbourne with a Journalism and Film degree, Penelope already knew choosing a creative path was going to be a challenge. "All I wanted to do was write and create but no one is just going to pay you for that straight out of uni. I knew I had to make my own opportunities but wasn't sure what that looked like at 21. So I decided to just try a million things and I ended up learning so much about business and creativity along the way."

After working in copywriting, journalism, marketing, content creation, creative direction, interning in fashion and tech, dabbling in dancing and acting, writing for online magazines and starting a fashion brand, Penelope gained as much business and creative experience as possible. She then met Eden and the pair organically started Boring Studios.

"I loved the business side of things paired with creative work but I struggled with it feeling like my own. With Penelope, we built Boring Studios from scratch and no one can take that away from me. When you have your own business, it's truly yours and there's no greater feeling."

Boring Studios exists for the future of creatives.

Creatives turned business owners.

Choosing a creative path such as designing, writing, photography or videography is brave. Why? Because these are often passions for people; creative outlets; play, not work.

-

For many years, creative skills haven't been taken seriously and it's often because creatives don't understand business.

-

You can be the most talented creative ever but if no one knows you exist and you don't know how to properly manage your business, you'll never sell that talent and continue the cycle of not being taken seriously.

-

With Boring Studios, we are changing that narrative, because creative work makes up some of the most important parts of our world.

creatives can be professional.

We want all creative people to know that they can work for themselves and create their own opportunities. All you need is a bit of business guidance.

-

After working in creative agencies, interning with start-ups, learning from founders and eventually building our own business; Boring Studios, we have learnt the foolproof specifics of what it means to successfully run a creative business.

-
Our goal is to show as many creatives as possible how they can have full creative freedom of their work and their lives.

-
Boring Studios© exists because we believe creative brains don't belong in cubicles.

-
Creatives belong working on our own terms and doing what we love -- we just need a bit of structure and planning to make it a career.
