Rest isn’t a failure. It’s part of the cycle.

Rest isn’t a failure. It’s part of the cycle.

door Penelope Stephens

It’s been a weird week…

Emotions are flying high.

Goals have been reached.

Some expectations have not been met but…

We continue, don’t we?

So we’re wrapping up our Club Boring launch tomorrow (I know you’re sick of hearing about it 😂).

And to go from months of hard work on a big project to a much smaller to-do list is really hard on your mind.

Why?

I feel like my purpose has gone.
I feel like “what’s next?”
I feel lost and sad.

It’s such a strange feeling, how finishing something can feel like losing something.

The silence is so loud.

...

But guys, I need to remind myself this project is not gone.

It’s just completed 😂

What I’m feeling is not failure, and it’s not depression.

It’s just the nervous system rebalancing after being in go-mode for too long.

...

So if you’re in a weird place too...

If you feel a little lost,
Unsure what’s next,
Sitting at a crossroads.

Same.

Here’s what I’m doing:

I’m not rushing into the next thing.
I might paint. I might sit in the silence.
I’ll let it feel uncomfortable.

And I’ll reflect instead of sprinting ahead.
  • What did I learn about myself through this project?
  • What parts felt energising?
  • What parts drained me?
  • What am I proud of?
I will sit with the fact that Eden and I just completed something great and our next project doesn’t need to come straight away.

We don’t need to be in go go go mode 24/7.

The business is not going anywhere if we don’t start a new project right away.

...

So today, I want you to understand that you’re doing enough.

Even if you did just 3 things on your to-do list - heck even if you did zero.

Because even when you’re completing projects and finishing tasks, you might still feel like you’re not doing enough.

It’s okay to sit with your life.
It’s okay to take a break from projects.
It’s okay to just “be” sometimes.

Even when you’re ticking boxes, your brain might still whisper, “you’re not doing enough.”

You are.

Sending you lots of love as always,

Penelope
